Cloud platforms let startups launch quickly and scale without buying physical infrastructure, but convenience can hide confusing services, uncontrolled bills and serious security responsibilities. Founders need enough understanding to challenge architecture choices, protect the business and connect technical spending to customer value. This course makes cloud decisions understandable without requiring engineering experience. You will learn the essential cloud models and architecture components, translate venture needs into provider-selection criteria and create a simple cloud map. You will examine identity, permissions, networks, storage, databases, deployment, monitoring, backups and recovery from a founder’s perspective. The course then shows you how to read cloud bills, model unit economics and establish ownership and review routines. Every section produces a useful asset, including a requirements brief, provider scorecard, security baseline, data plan and recovery checklist. By the end, you will become a cloud-literate founder: able to discuss architecture, question provider recommendations, manage cost and understand the security and reliability decisions affecting the venture. You will leave with a founder-level cloud blueprint and a 90-day improvement roadmap. Course Content

Section 1: Decide What the Cloud Should Do for the Venture
Connect cloud technology to business needs before selecting services. Learners will identify required capabilities, expected users, growth assumptions, regulatory constraints, internal skills and acceptable risks, then create a founder-level cloud requirements brief.

Section 2: Understand Cloud Models and Essential Concepts
Build a practical mental model of cloud computing. Learners will distinguish public, private and hybrid environments; understand SaaS, PaaS and IaaS; and examine on-demand access, shared resources, elasticity and measured usage.

Section 3: Understand the Building Blocks of Cloud Architecture
Learn how cloud-based products are assembled without becoming a cloud engineer. Learners will examine regions, availability zones, networks, computing, storage, databases, applications, APIs, domains and content delivery, then create a simple architecture map.

Section 4: Select Providers, Services and Architecture Options
Compare major cloud providers and managed-service alternatives using business criteria. Learners will assess capability, geography, cost, support, portability, ecosystem, skills and vendor dependence; decide when managed platforms are preferable to raw infrastructure; and document the selection.

Section 5: Protect Identity, Access and Cloud Security
Understand the founder's responsibilities within the shared-security model. Learners will address administrator accounts, multifactor authentication, least privilege, roles, secrets, network exposure, encryption, logging, provider controls and third-party access.

Section 6: Manage Cloud Data, Storage and Databases
Choose appropriate methods for storing business and application information. Learners will compare object, file and block storage; relational and non-relational databases; backups, retention, encryption, residency and deletion; and create a basic cloud-data plan.

Section 7: Deploy and Change Cloud Applications Safely
Understand how development work moves into a live cloud environment. Learners will examine development, testing and production environments; source control, deployment pipelines, containers, serverless services, configuration, releases and rollback at a founder level.

Section 8: Design for Reliability, Monitoring and Recovery
Prepare for failures before customers experience them. Learners will define availability expectations, monitor performance and errors, configure alerts, manage backups, establish recovery objectives and create an incident and disaster-recovery plan.

Section 9: Control Cloud Costs and Unit Economics
Prevent flexible infrastructure from becoming uncontrolled spending. Learners will understand usage-based pricing, bills, budgets, alerts, tagging, commitments, idle resources, scaling costs and cost per customer or transaction, then create a monthly cost review.

Section 10: Govern Cloud Operations and Build the Roadmap
Turn cloud infrastructure into a managed business capability. Learners will define ownership, access reviews, documentation, provider risk, support, change control, security reviews and performance reporting, then create a 90-day cloud improvement roadmap.
