Course Content

Build a founder-friendly mental model of digital technology without getting lost in jargon. Learners will trace how interfaces, applications, servers, databases, networks and cloud services work together, then draw a simple system map for their own venture.

Turn a business concept into something a designer, developer or technology partner can understand and build. Learners will define users, workflows, requirements, constraints and acceptance criteria, producing a concise technology requirements brief.

Section 3: Choose the Right Product-Building Approach
Decide whether to use no-code, low-code, existing software, custom development or a combination. Learners will compare speed, cost, flexibility, ownership, security and scalability, then make a defensible build, buy, integrate or partner decision.

Section 4: Understand Software, Websites, Apps and APIs
Learn the building blocks behind modern digital products through startup examples rather than programming theory. Learners will understand front-end and back-end systems, websites, mobile apps, databases, APIs, integrations, source code and version control well enough to make informed decisions.

Section 5: Use Cloud Technology and Digital Infrastructure
Understand what happens when a startup operates in the cloud. Learners will examine hosting, storage, computing, software services, environments, domains, performance, monitoring, backups and availability, then create a lean infrastructure plan.

Section 6: Manage Data as a Business Asset
Determine what data the venture should collect, how it should be organised and who should be allowed to use it. Learners will address databases, data quality, analytics, dashboards, privacy, consent, retention and responsible governance, producing a practical startup data plan.

Section 7: Apply AI and Automation Responsibly
Identify where artificial intelligence and automation can create genuine value rather than novelty. Learners will assess use cases, select suitable tools, understand model limitations, protect sensitive information and design a small experiment with measurable results.

Section 8: Protect the Venture from Digital and Cyber Risks
Build essential cybersecurity habits before an incident occurs. Learners will address identity, access, phishing, devices, software updates, vendors, backups, incident response and business continuity, producing a founder-level security baseline.

Section 9: Lead Developers and Technology Partners
Work confidently with technical employees, freelancers, agencies and co-founders. Learners will practise evaluating proposals, setting milestones, reviewing progress, controlling accounts and source code, managing scope and recognising warning signs before they become expensive.

Section 10: Build a Practical Technology Roadmap
Combine business priorities, customer evidence and technical realities into an achievable roadmap. Learners will prioritise investments, estimate costs, manage technical debt, define performance indicators and create a 90-day action plan supporting validation and growth.
